Do you think this is illegal?

I live in NYC. My husband came up with the idea of selling our car but by a raffle (lottery I guess). He wants to sell 100 tickets for $45. The car is in pretty good condition and we just want to sell it because we need the money since we’re having a baby soon. Would this be illegal? Why? Thanks!

    sounds perfectly legal to me,problem is what if you don’t sell enough tickets and you end up giving the car away?might be less hassle just to sell it

    You probably need a licence to hold a lottery or raffle. Check with City Hall.

    Not as long as you pay tax on 4500.00 .

    In the state of New York, only valid charity organizations or churches can hold raffles.

    You can’t operate a game of chance without a license. Yes, it’s illegal without the proper authorization.
