What would encourage people to buy a raffle ticket- A gift card, or a shiny new grill?

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

I am organizing a raffle, we are trying to figure out what to raffle off. We have $250 to work with. My thought was to get a nice grill (I found a $400 grill on sale for $250), but some people think it would be better to get a gift certificate for $250 to some store.
Now, I think, yes, a gift certificate is a nice idea, but contests don’t give away gift certificates. You don’t see “Win a gift certificate to this auto dealer” you see “win a CAR!”. Why? I think because an ITEM is tangible & exciting, and really seems like alot more than a gift certificate.
The idea is to sell as many tickets as we can.
What are your thoughts?

Does The “giveaway” In “a Truck Giveaway” In Marketing Mean A Gift Or A Kind Of Activity?

Saturday, December 5th, 2009

This phrase is seen in this sentence “It’s part of a marketing package that pulls together custom-made one-minute commercials, online promotions and a truck giveaway”. Does the “giveaway” mean a gift or free sample for touting customers or does it mean a kind of activity such as a raffle or can it be a contest? i wonder if a real truck can be given for free as a free sample? thank you and I would like to thank Frankie and Superman for the answers given.
