Here is an example…
If a person wants to sell a junk car for $10.00 a ticket, they should be able to. The winner gets $200.00 in scrap metal for $10.00 and the seller gets $500.00 for a $200.00 scrap. They both win, and the others all knew they might win, but probably not because of the odds.

I live in NYC. My husband came up with the idea of selling our car but by a raffle (lottery I guess). He wants to sell 100 tickets for $45. The car is in pretty good condition and we just want to sell it because we need the money since we’re having a baby soon. Would this be illegal? Why? Thanks!

It seems like a lot of people could benefit in this tough economy by investing $1 or so a week into chances to win things like houses, cars, etc. What’s the logic in making raffles illegal?

I realize each state has it’s own laws regarding contests and raffles, But is it illegal to raffle off something say a new car, for $10.00 a ticket or have a contest and keep the profits?

Example: I have a 2006 vehicle. I can not make the payments and I want to sell it. Can I put it on ebay for $100 a ticket, and sell 200 tickets, and then the winner gets the car?
